Your vote should count
by changewhat
When you want to buy something with a credit card the store clerk asks for a picture ID in order to avoid fraud. I am glad they do and always thank them for asking me. So, when it comes to one of our most precious liberties, the ability to vote for the candidate of your choice I do not want my vote canceled out due to fraud. A simple picture ID is the best way to make sure my vote counts. (Unless you want an election to be based on a bunch of fraudulent votes that is)

You obviously didn't read the article. People showing up to vote in the place of registered voters is a problem that does not exist. This is merely an attempt by Republicans to reduce voter turnout of primarily Democratic voters.

What is a serious problem is election fraud. That is the practice of voter intimidation, ( which the voter ID law is a sophisticated version) vote rigging, and the use of political operatives in the election process. Since Republicans use these methods I can only assume you have no problem with election fraud.

I've never had a clerk ask me for a picture ID when taking my credit card, what are you talking about?

Give me a break! Please take off the partisan blinders to see just how common sense this measure is. It is a straw man to suggest that obtaining ID is such a burden that it disenfranchises the masses.

Is it common sense to create a law that fixes a problem that dosen't exist? The only reason that Republicans favor it is because they think a few thousand voters who need to get ID's won't.

It's as targeted against Democrats as a law targeting Republicans saying if you itemize deductions you have to get a special form to vote, no big hardship, but if a few thousand or even a few hundred fail to do so, it throws the election to the Democrats. That's partisan.

It is the critique the Republicans always ignore -- not one single person shows up to impersonate a legitimate voter. Requiring voter id is always a vote suppression measure.

What does tax deductions have to do with voting. I think identity confirmation is valid for voting. This isn't a republican initiative, it is an American issue. It is also an illigal immigration voting issue. I think that is the whole point of the law. Do you (democrats) want illigal aliens voting??

i am glad you think that "People showing up to vote in the place of registered voters is a problem that does not exist. Last election, my wife was off shopping in New York so i took Maria our maid along in the limo to our polling place. Since my neighbor, John just told me he was too busy counting his money to vote, i gave our driver a $20 to come inside with us. No one asked for ID and the 3 of us "voted" without delay. Funny thing though is my golfing buddy, Tom, was just arriving his gardener and his maid. Nope. "People showing up to vote in the place of registered voters is a problem that does not exist."

Really? Because I haven't had a store ask for photo ID when I use a credit card in ~25 years.
