Okay, with all of the fantastic (and some not-so-fantastic) political coverage on Slate, and all the possible posters of the Fray (yes, I read as many as I can) I find it funny that no one has put forth the possibility that Obama is deliberately downplaying his policy for now. Strategically, it makes sense as people are reacting nicely to his emotional speeches, so why fix what isn't broke? Yes he could be more substantial in his explanations of policy, but he DOES have them, and they are good policies too. Unitl people demand to hear them in his stump speeches, he certainly isn't losing momentum. He's risking editorials that accuse him of being vapid or messianic, but anyone who knows what those words means also has the intelligence to go look his policy up and decide for themselves. And in the later stages (aka the only stages that matter and assuming Obama gets the nod) will Obama and the the Dems be better off with a platform of policies that has been nit-picked through the primaries? I think not. Obama might be playing to voters' hearts instead of their minds right now, but won't that end up being an advantage, when he can play a fresh hand later?
And I don't know the answer to this, but hypothetically if Obama/Edwards is decided to be the ticket, how do they mesh the policies then? Is it all Obama's policies? 50/50?
