Just what this country needs :)

Carter did start the military buildup and deregulated oil, helped drain the Soviets in Afghanistan, and supported the Shah against the Ayatullahs in Iran. I can see why you'ld be very scared.

Whats not to love about a bumbling, weak, spineless democrat handling our foreign affairs? eh?

You fail to make your case against my specific examples. Compared to the Failure in Chief with his Iraqi Blunder and with his total of 7000 Americans dead at the hands of terrorists, Carter looks downright manly.

While, Carter is at times under-rated, I don't think his boycott of the Olympics was that great of a stand against the Soviet-Afghan War and did not drain them at all.

He did the exact opposite.

Remember the long gas lines. Carter regulated prices and caused this. He caused the oil embargo.

Carter kissed the soviets asses.

And allowed the ayatullahs to take over Iran. He did nothing to support the Shah.

He gutted the military.

Do you really expect people to believe the lies you just posted?

He presided over and caused the worst economy in U.S. history.

"I don't think his boycott of the Olympics was that great of a stand against the Soviet-Afghan War and did not drain them at all."

If that was all that was done, I would agree with you. As was, the Olympic boycott wasn't able to down Soviet helis, which is what turned the war and put the Soviets on the wrong side of a proxy fight.

Carter was long out of office when the Mujahadeen began downing Soviet Helicopters. Carter only signed an executive order for the CIA to begin a propaganda campaign against the Soviets. The man behind bringing the Soviets down is of course Charlie Wilson from Texas.

Not exactly. It was a lot more than "propaganda" The U.S. was funding these guys even before the Soviets invaded. The whole ball got rolling under Carter.

<link>

It's funny how right wingers want to have it both ways.

They want to blame Carter for "creating" the guys like Bin Laden by sending him arms and then they want to say that Carter did nothing to stand up the Soviets. Funny stuff.

Carter was no prize of course - but he was not half as bad as these clowns imagine.

The first stinger missiles, the only thing that brought Soviet Hinds down, arrived in Afghanistan sometime around 1987-88. Stingers didn't even enter US military service until 1981. Congressman Charlie Wilson, Democrat is really the only person that 'got the ball rolling'. An incredible person, and he was my representative until his retirement.

To say Carter is responsible for what happened in Afghanistan is somewhat like saying Ike started Vietnam.

Robert Gates see it differently.

Anyway, I'll keep that in mind, next time a Conservative wants to blame Carter for "creating" the Mujahadeen.

You can keep that in mind if you want, I'm merely pointing out actual history. Charlie Wilson was/is still a liberal.

Stingers were deployed in 1981, replacing earlier generations.

From wikipedia, on when and by whom our aid was begun:

"Like many other anti-communist movements at that time, the rebels quickly garnered support from the United States. As stated by the former director of the CIA and current Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, in his memoirs From the Shadows, the American intelligence services began to aid the rebel factions in Afghanistan 6 months before the Soviet deployment. On July 3, 1979, US President Jimmy Carter signed an executive order authorizing the CIA to conduct covert propaganda operations against the communist regime.

Carter advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski stated "According to the official version of history, CIA aid to the Mujahadeen began during 1980, that is to say, after the Soviet army invaded Afghanistan, 24 Dec 1979. But the reality, secretly guarded until now, is completely otherwise." Brzezinski himself played a fundamental role in crafting U.S. policy, which, unbeknownst even to the Mujahideen, was part of a larger strategy "to induce a Soviet military intervention." In a 1998 interview with Le Nouvel Observateur, Brzezinski recalled:

We didn't push the Russians to intervene, but we knowingly increased the probability that they would...That secret operation was an excellent idea. It had the effect of drawing the Soviets into the Afghan trap...The day that the Soviets officially crossed the border, I wrote to President Carter. We now have the opportunity of giving to the Soviet Union its Vietnam War.[20]
