Roses and Daffodils Do Bloom Together
by AzureSong

I'm guessing from the author's bio that she lives in New York, or at least the East Coast. I'm in Southern California and the daffodils and the roses always bloom together. In fact, I cut some roses and daffodils TODAY, January 1st, for the house. Granted, the daffodils are the early blooming double tazetta type, but still, they are daffodils. The large trumpet style daffodils will also bloom with the roses a little later in the year.

I live in New Mexico. It depends on whether it warms up early enough and if we have a late cold snap but I've had daffodils and roses bloom at the same time. They look beautiful together too!

It really depends not only on where you are but also the type of roses you grow.

I seriously doubt any Gallica will bloom at the same time as your daffodils, for example. Besides, in Socal, you will probably have to artificially hibernate them or else they won't bloom much.

At the same time, here in Eastern Washington, I had at least one rose bloom around ('Double Delight', a hybrid tea) the time of my last daffodils.

A lot of gardeners don't know or appreciate how diverse the world of roses is. Depending on where you are, some might bloom all year around, but others might still bloom only for a month or so in late May/early June.

I should know-- I have 35 different varieties of roses in my garden at the moment, and another 20 on order to plant this year ;-D
