Not my guy, but ....

Mike Huckabee is not my guy, and won't be. But, his appearance on Meet the Press was brilliant and accomplished what he needed to accomplish for his constituency.

Politically, Mitt Romney is the most dangerous candidate in the campaign. His dramatic conversion from centrist Governor of Massachusetts to right wing ideologue establishes him as a man of overwhelming ambition and little scruple of either ideology or ethics. You simply don't know what you are getting.

That's not true with Hckabee. He presents the image of a caring Christian, it's just that when he comes to some prominent social issues, his mind is still in a straightjacket and that is unacceptable. His empahtic declaration that "life begins at conception" without any pause to consider what "human" life is is an example of his blinkers. Although its a well-kepts "secret" by the Vatican, the issue of when a fetus becasue a "human" with a soul is somewhat more complex that the point of conception, and the answer may even rest in our increasing suphiscated knowledge of evolution. Teilhard marked the birth of humanity as the point when our ancestors acquired the consiousness trait of self-reflection. That point in our evolutionary tree when we realized that we are ourselves and could comtemplate among other thiungs, death.

Self-reflection by the fetus doesn't come until much later in gestation. In fact, given the number of fertilied eggs thatr are ejected before implnation in the womb, under Huckabee's defo9nition, the number one abortionist is the Deity itself.

Huckabee's "life begins at conception" is not a scientific fact as he says but a religious motto, uninformed by deep analysis.

But where Huckabee is a breakthrough for populists is his demonsatrtion the Evangeligals may have more in common with the Democrayt than any one might have thought until now.

John K:

Do you REALLY think Huckabee would garner more votes in the primary if he changed his stance on abortion to one based on "scientific fact" informed by "deep analysis"? How can you judge his campaign by criteria other than that he is a baptist minister running for the republican ticket?

If he pandered to you, he'd lose cause you sure ain't voting for him no matter what, as you make clear. Why would he want to lose?
