I'm looking forward to seeing this movie. I know Sweeney Todd seems like a truly depressing note to take during the holiday season - and perhaps that is why Burton and Co have chosen to release it during this season. They have a history of releasing movies like The Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride (admittedly that was released in Sept) just at the point that those of us who can't bring ourselves to fully indulge in the hedonistic spectacle of Christmas, need a melancholy break from all that "good cheer".

There is also something truly brilliant in the music of Sweeny Todd. The underlying melodic and rhythmic themes he created for this show reappear in his subsequent works. One cannot hear the music of a production like Into the Woods without hearing snippets of Demons are Prowling, Swing Your Razor High and others scattered throughout.
