When people forget

I have to say, I've no desire to see Evan Almighty. Bruce Almighty had its moments in a sappy, don't take it seriously way. What bothers me so greatly about the new film is everything it forgets about the story of the flood. Several of these were mentioned in the two articles on Slate, but I wanted to raise another glaring one. In the book of Genesis, God expressly states that he will not cause another flood. Ever. At all. His word to Noah and Noah's family. The proof? The rainbow. God's covenant. Now, as I understand my Scripture, when Jesus became the New Law to replace/fulfill the Old, he did not revoke that covenant. So what the heck is God doing permitting another flood (even a local one like the dam bursting)? Not to limit an omnipotent being, but if you're going to take any myth/story/legend, have the decency to read it first.

I cringe to think of Hollywood attempting a modern telling of the book of Job. God and the Devil quaffing beers together while paddle-warring over a schmuck?

He didn't promise not to let bad filmmakers make an almost infinite number of bad films about the various fictional events in the bible.

If I'm not mistaken, God never makes a promise to Noah that He will never flood the earth again, He pledges never to wipe out his creation, Man, in such a way ever again. From what I take from the review, no one even so much as gets wet in said flood, or drowns.

They should have. Especially Wanda Sikes.

Anyways, God gave us free will. He didn't "permit" the flood in the movie from happeneing, that was the fault of some crooked politician(?)

Little nuances in Biblical Reading, perhaps.

They kinda did the movie you talk about at the end of your post and it was fun. It was called, "Oh God, You Devil" and starred George Burns as both the Devil and God.

"God expressly states that he will not cause another flood." Look again, because that's not what it says. To quote from the New International Version, Genesis 9:15, "Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life." You can visit bible.com and look it up in every major translation out there and it will read substantially the same. It's one of the more straightforward texts in the Bible. Rather ironic you'd make such an error in a post where you lament how much the movie "forgets" about the story.
