Johns or Whores?
by BenK

The question is ... who do we crack down on? The ones who sell what they shouldn't or the ones who buy it?

The Democrats have, for quite some time, dubbed the whores 'sex workers' and suggested that they were simply victims of society, forced by desperation into an unsavory business, and that cracking down on the rich johns was the way to end the trade in bodies.

That's exactly what John Edwards is saying ... crack down on the corporations and lobbyists who buy the politicians, not the corrupt and venal elected officials, mostly ex-lawyers (and thus used to selling themselves to any cause an an hourly rate) who, scandal after scandal, have shown themselves to be whores.

But who should we really be locking up? Certainly outright bribery should be illegal - even offering a bribe is not legal already - but when we crack down, it will be easier to clean out the whorehouse of congress than to shut down all the corporations, national and international, who currently line the pockets of the Clintons, etc.

Funny stuff, bro.

So only the Clintons and Dems are beholden to the corps and lobbyists, huh? The GOP is lily white and innocent and has no addiction to K Street or Carlyle or Halliburton. Abramoff and DeLay were really Dems, right?

Gosh you're funny.

Benk that was pretty idiotic to assign corruption solely to one party. Especially after the past 7 years of perpetual scandal.

Both

Why is it an either/or situation? Both the prostitutes and the johns are breaking the law, so both should be prosecuted.

BTW, the same applies to the illegal immigration issue. Not that I expect the government to ever crack down on the companies that want cheap labor without the hassle of having to provide silly things like safe working conditions.

Heck no, I'd never assign all the corruption to one party or the other. Or suggest that the independents are all perfect.

So true. But each side is further corrupted by the way it is beholden to one or the other... the republicans became much more corrupt when they took power as politicians because before, while they didn't want to crack down on the corporations, at least they could crack down on the corrupt power brokers in congress... but when they themselves were in congress, suddenly they felt they had to smile at both sides of the smokey table. Democrats will never look in each other's freezers, and republicans don't want to crack down broadly on corporations.

We do need someone who will halt all the bribery; but not someone who believes that the answer to corporate influence is giving more power to lawyers and politicians. Seriously.
