Why Democrats should avidly support the nomination ol'Huck
by cboas

For all the reason stated in the article, for one thing. But most importantly because any self respecting economicly minded republican will defect from his/her party when he/she sees that the religious right has officially executed a coup d'etat of rthe GOP.

A republican nomination secures the GOP the South and almost nowhere else. With the exception of race against a Hillary, which would bring out all the libertarians against here. That would be close!

Genral Election Results: 35% Huckabee vs. 60% Any Democrat but Hillary 5% Bloomberg

Let's have some longer range vsiion here folks. GO HUCK!

I don't know my friend, I think a Huckabee v. Clinton match-up is very troubling...

My point exactly.

Hillary vs. Huckabee would be close. Huckabee wins: 51/49

Obama vs. Huckabee would be a slaughter. Obama takes it 60/40

Edwards vs. Huckabee, Edwards takes it 55/45

Biden (!?) vs. Huckabee, Biden wins: 55/45

Be very careful what you wish for. I for one would not like to see a Huckabee Administration, but I do not share your confidence in his unelectability. I have seen so many unbelievable election outcomes in my lifetime, to know nothing is a sure thing.

Anything can happen between now and November. I doubt a Republican can get elected next year, but if one does, I would hope it was someone at least qualified.

My thought as well -- on one hand I want the GOP to nominate someone like Huck who should be a real loser, but then I think about what would happen if he were to actually win -- cannot underestimate the Democrats' ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory!

so cboas, are you saying that Hillary won't win the primary, or are you rooting for huckabee? I'm a bit confused. You can't just discard Hillary because she is having some trouble in Iowa. And by trouble I mean 2nd place in a state that probably wouldn't favor her or her party in a general election anyway.

I think this is wishful thinking--though there is precident: the southern democrats who abandoned the party after it was co-opted by the left wing. However, I know a lot of economically minded country-club republicans. My father, for one. And he would vote for Hitler were he the republican nominee. For example, when I challenged dad on the national endowment that the republicans wanted to axe, he would say, "don't worry, they'll never get that passed." There are a lot of republicans who don't buy every piece of wood in the party platform, but will support it nevertheless because of the issues that matter most to them.

And they have more in common with snake handlers like Huckabee than the radical lesbians who follow Hillary.
