Funny bones
by Bowa

While I am not a Huckabee supporter, I do think it is disingenuous to argue that he is "too funny". Is that just because the Democrats save for Joe Biden seem to lack any sense of humor at all?

As for your knock on President Bush -- as to making jokes at others expense -- I disagree -- his sense of humor seems to be the same as JFK's - both pranksters, jokesters -- and they both have/had great comedic timing. If you (and most of the MSM) didn't dislike Bush so much, you and they would be applauding the way he jokes with the Press instead of seething inside whenever he opens his mouth.

Comedy is a powerful political tool and weapon in the soundbite age we are living in-- making people laugh sets people at ease very quickly -- I would not "misunderestimate" it.

From a humor perspective, the democrats have come up short for a long time-- only Clinton was able to keep it light -- and he won. Mondale had the personality of an accountant, Dukakis was so stiff you could throw a pie in his face and people wouldn't laugh, Kerry was a mortician, Hillary could suck the funny out of a clown, and Obama is so boring by the time he gets to the punch line nobody cares.

On the other hand in the GOP, only Romney is a stiff. Huckabee, McCain, Giuliani, and Thompson all have "funny bones" and know how to use them.

I am undecided and up for grabs this time, as I no longer even identify with republican/conservative politics in general, let alone any candidate in particular.

But one thing I know as a long-time Goldwater Conservative is this: The key to every republicans heart is inscribed with the letters RR. And Ronald Reagan arrived in Washington in 1980 without any foreign policy experience whatsoever. (I am not even sure he ever played in a movie set outside the US)

So while this article was well-written, the author shows a certain lack of understanding of republican politics. On the right, it is philosophy and posture rather than experience that gets you the nomination.

In recent history, the republicans have nominated, elected, and re-elected two governors with no FP experience, based on charm, leadership, and the ability to send the right policy signals: The great Ronald Reagan, and the great George Bush's smirking frat-boy kid.

Huck needn't worry about his resume, and he knows it.

There is a simpler way to describe GOP Presidents in recent history:

All hat and no cattle.

The funniest reply to all of this is when someone compared PPresident Bush's "funny bones" with that of President JFK's. I was a kid when JFK died, but I was and still am one of his fans, we weren't friends but I loved his funny side too, but Mr. Bush's funny bones can never compare with JFK's.
