My mom and dad gave me tablespoonfuls of honey when I had trouble sleeping because of allergy-associated cough. It worked remarkably well.

Of course, years later I realized that the strange, bitter flavor of the honey was from the lemon and bourbon whiskey mixed into it, which no doubt helped my young self finally get to sleep.

Honey is also a fine antiseptic. Place it liberally on cuts or scrapes and it will ensure rapid healing. Honey's hydroscopic properties also make it a fine bandage all by itself.
