Movies with girlfriends having fun
by chicagogirl
One of my favorites is "The World of Henry Orient," about two high school girls who develop a crush on a pianist played by Peter Sellers. The recent "Southern Belles" was not a great film but it was a nice portrayal of a strong female friendship. It was a huge critical and box office failure, but "The Sweetest Thing" had some great girl bonding moments. And don't forget all of the movies about girls and women who are biological as well as psychic sisters, from the many versions of "Little Women" to "Crimes of the Heart" (okay, there's a murder in that one, but the women don't plot it).
Here are 4.5 titles to consider

"The Witches of Eastwick" has all three protagonists getting knocked up by Satan, but having a great time and apparently not suffering too mightily because of it.

"Blue Crush" has three girlfriends (and a little sister) having a great time surfing and living together. There's a romantic plotline that causes tension between two of the characters, but ultimately, all's well in the end.

"Bend it Like Beckham" shows two fun-loving girlfriends who play soccer together. They also struggle with romantic jealousy, but it's resolved by the final scene as well, when they go off to college together.

"Girls Just Want to Have Fun" -- much like "Hairspray," minus the politics. Starring newcomers Sarah Jessica Parker and Helen Hunt. A slumber party favorite when I was in middle school!

"Legally Blonde" might be a stretch for this list, but the friendship between Elle and Paulette is excellent girly fun. The bend-and-snap scene is great! Oddly, the sequel is dismal -- all the magic in their relationship got lost somewhere in the screenplay....
