Merry Christmas, Scooter
by Livy
Scooter Libby is not going to appeal his perjury conviction. According to a news report, his sentence has already been commuted and he is expected to get a full pardon after the 2008 presidential election. This proves that Santa is not just that fat, jolly person dressed in red and does not live in the North Pole. Santa lives in the White House and takes care of his elves even when they have been bad. Why not give Dick Cheney a Christmas present and allow Scooter to go back to work for him?

So I take it you are no fan of commuted sentances or pardons, huh? Sucks, but they ARE a part of our legal/governmental systems you know. Therefore, if they offend you so, I would suggest you start trying to get them removed, done away with, you need to lead the charge to rid ourselves of this silly shit.

Unless of course, it is actually NOT the commuted sentance or the pardon you are really bothered by, but rather the person granting and receiving them.........................

In which case you are just a pathetic, silly-assed political hack who acts as if these things should honestly only be used by a President on the people who his political opponents choose. Basicly, to be used as dems see fit when a dem is President and then, as dems approve of when a republican is President.

That is sad, skippy, even for one of you looney lefty fuckers, this is weak.

yeah, Scooter dropped his appeal because he knew he couldn't prove his innocence without dragging down Cheney. bwhahahaha

President "shit for brains" has no choice but to grant a full pardon. If Scooter takes the fall for outing a spy then he would sing about all the other crimes this administration has committed and the Shrub would end up behind bars.

Excuse me, but weren't you one of the ones yelling the loudest about Libby's innocence, and reciting the whole catalog of false right wing talking points about the Plame case?

I guess when the whole thing ends in ignominious defeat for the Bush adminstration and its allies, and the only thing they have left is to cheat the jailor on the back end, you post is about the only defense you have left.

I seriously doubt that you worried one bit about the fact that George H.W. Bush pardoned many of the Iran Contra convicts, and you certainly aren't concerned about the fact that Libby got a get out of jail free card.

Of course, Bush and company were the same blowhards who were screaming that they were going to ride to the rescue of their comrade and put an end to this dispicable witchunt by exposing Libby's tormentors as vindictive liars.

But when the time came, Bush and company suddenly discovered that they had better things to do, so they let Libby take the fall.

Libby covered for Rove and managed the keep the slippery one from being indicted (just barely).

Since then, Rove has been implicated in the Justice Department scandal, which is why he suddenly decided he needed to resign.

I suspect you yelled and screamed over Marc Rich.

But you aren't screaming over Libby, or Poindexter or North.

If that's the case, you're a hypocrite.

"Scooter dropped his appeal because he knew he couldn't prove his innocence...."

Why in the hell would anyone in the US NEED to "prove his innocence" anyway, toots? Seems rather contrary to our entire system does it not? All that is required is for his guilt to be proven, which it was, he was sentanced, as our system dictates AND, that sentance was commuted, as that SAME system allows.

Its done. Move along.............

Congrats Scooter.

It's about time this travesty of justice was rectified.
Re: Merry Christmas, Scooter

I haven't yelled over ANY commuted sentances or pardons, from ANY president. Hell, unlike yourself, I couldn't even tell you the name of ONE person who received this type of shit from any President.

I DID however notice you conviently negelected to mention even ONE from the prior President, electing instead to hop back to the OTHER prior one. Any reason for THAT? Any chance your boy billy may have pardoned someone others wouldn't think highly of?

What with you so queer for someone ELSE being a "hypocrite" and all, seems you would have bitched about a few ....................Whats up with that? You also one who is all for this shit as long as it is looney lefty fuckers doing the pardoning?

Re: Merry Christmas, Scooter

He mentioned Marc Rich who was pardoned by Clinton. Pay attention.
Re: Merry Christmas, Scooter
by UPNYA2

As I stated earlier, I don't know anyone that ANY Presidents pardoned.

Never the less, I suspect you know that when I said that, I was talking about how he didn't "mention" anyone Clinton pardoned in his bitch. As in, he DID "mention" him, but ONLY to state that I probably bitched about it, but not to say he too bitched about it. As I said he never bitched about anyone Clinton pardoned, which is the defination of a "hypocrite".

Power to pardon: an anachronism
by Livy
The constitutional power of the president to pardon or commute is an anachronism. It was designed as a safeguard against politically motivated trials and convictions. Isn't it odd that when a judge orders a retrial or overthrows a conviction because of procedural defects, police or prosecutorial violations, or obvious injustice, there is a public outcry against the judge. The exoneraton of a person wrongfully convicted can take years and a lot of money before the person is released. The presidential power to reprieve or pardon is limited only by the words "offenses against the United States except in casesof impeachment. Therefore, the only restraint of this power is the president's own sense of justice, mercy and exceptional or extenuating circumstances.I object to president's of both parties, saying we are a nation of laws and not men or that no one is above the law and then using constitutional power to accomplish just that object for personal reasons.. Former Confederate leaders were pardoned only after the Confederate states agreed to abolish slavery and ratify the 14th and 15th Amendments. I have no more animus against Scooter than against anyone else convicted of perjury or obstruction of justice.when this is done to protect elected officials .

Presidential power?

How strange.

Re: Kons not outraged at egregious misuse of

You mean the same egregeous use of presidencial power Clinton exercised 168 times in his last 3 days in office?

Funny, it wasn't egregeous back then. Amazing how things get redefined by the left when a republican is doing it.
