Some of these things that Gore supposedly "missed" are things he probably, as a rational adult, assumed other people with common sense would understand--but I guess in the case of this author he was giving too much credit. In particular the author's assertion that we already prove we don't care about future generations by "denying" them lives by not giving birth to as many children we can is so flawed I don't know where to begin. Any marginally intelligent adult knows that taking care of future generations means weighing quantity of lives versus the quality of those lives. Sure, more people means more lives--but what kind of lives will those be if the world is completely overpopulated?

yea, you're right. even if we wanted to be so numerical as this guy, we could make your argument this way: total future global happiness = (number of people) * (how happy they are).

clearly the latter factor is inversely proportional to the second, so churning out tons of people does not maximize the welfare of future generations.
