Ygalbot:Damn but I love your style and agree with you nearly 100% of the time in principal, if not in presentation. But sometimes even you miss the boat. To indict Channukah as a celebration of bloodlust & backwardness would be like indicting the Olympics as a celebration of pedophelia. But still technically, I suppose, you do have a point. Nonetheless, where you really did miss both the boat (and the dock) is by your comparison of Chanukkah to Christmas. For while Channukah may be an antiquated celebration of we-don't-know-quite-what-anymore, it is also dead last on the list of Jewish holidays, ranked by importance. Yes indeed, Sukkot, Tu B'Shvat, Shmini Atzeret and Simchah Torah (don't feel bad if you have never heard of them, Goyim, they're pretty obscure even to a lot of us) all rank higher in the Rabbi's heart then does Channukah. While it did rise to prominence in America, this was simply because Gentiles felt bad not having the ability to celebrate and reach out to minorities. That's right, I am not of the belief that we elevate Channukah to fit in with the Gentiles, but just the opposite; that the Gentiles have elevated Channukah and Kwanza to fit in with us. And for that reason alone, I don't mind the big C, the big K or the big CH, despite their backwardness, because who can deny it, People are just plain nicer this time of year.
Additionally, chill out dude, not everything is a harbinger of the collapse of atheistic civilization. Still, a fascinating piece, again. Keep up the great work! By the by, when do we get to see a rematch between you and Galloway? I am frequently disturbed by the notion that people seem to think he won last time...
Good point; the promotion of Hanuka (I'll use the shortest spelling) is as much the work of the same folks who want to use Christmas to sell you junk as it is Jews desperate to distract their kids from the big party.
But yeah, when you get down to it, Hanukah celebrates the victory of the fundamentalists over the kind of people who make such a big deal of Hanukah today. Ironic.
