The Republican Debate
by cod3fr3ak

Farce. This is something I simply do not understand. These guys get up on stage and talk about... nothing. Just as the author of the article states:

"Lots of issues voters care about were never discussed—health care, energy, Iran, education. Those issues that were covered didn't get much illumination."

The answer is a resounding, "No." What I do not understand is how relativly intellegent people allow their representatives (Republican) simply fill their ears with vapor. None of the issues that really matter were addressed. And yet their supporters don't seem to mind -- as long as they "Beat Hillary Clinton." Are they so afraid that the the Office of the President will be filled with someone who cang govern, that they are willing to vote for anyone -- even someone who does not have their interests at heart? At least most of the Democratic candidates attempt to address the issues that people are struggling with. Loss of jobs and economic issues, health care, and national security (not just talking about it like Giuliani does so well). These are the things that most folks (yes I am generalizing) would consider to be important. But each time I hear one of these guys stand up and speak its always about gay rights, or abortion or some other non-issue.

I am being forced to conclude that our electorate really isn't that bright. Please say it ain't so! Because if it is we are in real trouble, at a time when we can least afford to be.

Although all candidates (on both sides) can rightfully be accused of ducking and circumventing questions, you are wrong to blame the republicans for failing to discuss substantive issues in this particular debate. They could only answer what they were asked. I can't remember any substantive questions on any of the issues listed. Instead, CNN chose to ply us with questions about whether they believe every word of the Bible or hypothetical abortion punishment questions that would clearly be in the domain of the states.

I blame them because they should have boycotted this outrageous setup.

I agree they all got to see transcripts of the questions before they were asked. At least thats how the youtube debate went down.

Furthermore - why didn't th audience object?
