In response to laptop's question.
by Horace2

As I have posted before, I have never met or read about a tougher bunch of Americans than those who are United States Marines;, once and forever Semper Fi..

I can imagine that you have read about combat Marines in WWI, divisions of Marines in Pacific Combat on Iwo in WWII, of Marines stopping the North Viets during the Tet Offensive, of Marines cleaning al Qaeda's clock in Iraq.

Combat Marines

Between WWI and WWII certain groups of marines were assigned to serve on navy men of war, especially Battle Ships. Basically they were sea going Military Police. They were posted as armed guards over sailors locked into gun turrets. locked into their below decks battle stations. With orders to shoot any sailor who abandoned his post during combat.

These marines were also trained as armed boarding parties and armed landing parties but the sailors in the US Navy hated these Sea Going Cops as they saw them and labled them- because of the Marine Dress Blues-, Bell Hops.

One never called a Marine on leave or at any other time, a Bell Hop aka Sea Soldier, if he wished to keep his teeth intact and in his mouth.

Good talking to you. Cheers

than you are. He's posting under another nic just as you are....and he's been around the fray a helluva lot longer than YOU have.

You admitted to at least two other past nics, and I suspect there are many more.

That, plus the fact that in your dementia, senility and/or confusion, you have accused others of accusing you of posing.

Paranoid much???

How about THIS evaluation:

"The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!"

WWII.

Don't tell me what the Marines of that time, the ones that I knew then and after that war, thought about being called anything other than marines.

Neither of your sources mentions Sea Going Bell Hops, one that was used but rarely in the face of a Marine and never without earning a knuckle sandwiche

Finally, from YOUR source we learn:

Marines are also very critical of Marines, and others, who use terms that were in use before their own time, or perhaps terms they never really understood in the first place, like ex-Marine, preferring "former Marine" in its place. In some cases, they even now consider certain terms to have been derogatory in nature, although not the case to begin with. These things come and go; Semper Fidelis was shortened to "Semper Fi" by WW II Marines--and it's meaning even replaced at that time. Many of today's Marines resent some of these terms mainly because they have little knowledge of the finer points of our own history, heritage and traditions, falling back onto whatever they now perceive to have been the truth of their Old Corps.

Piss on you. Eh.
