Well, Hitchens certainly seems unbiased and fair in his assesment of Mitt Romney...its obvious that he is "religously neutral" and doesn't have an axe to grind...right?

Let's be honest here, Romney is not a leader of "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints," nor has he ever been in the governing leadership. Hitchens has simply trodded out the same old tired "anti-mormon arguments" that have been around for decades. He has taken a little bit of fact and then not very skillfully morfed those facts into an argument agaisnt mormonism.

So, what's really going on here? Hitchens is either a very devout member of another Christian denomination that cleary hates mormons because his preacher told him to; or, he is an athiest/secular progressive (which is also a religion) that is simply trying to tear down all religion. Whichever he happens to be, he should at least be honest enough to tell us what his beliefs are!

If Christpher Hitchens is a Christian, then he should explain how mormons believe and worship Jesus Christ just like the majority of this country does. And he should explain that Christians of all denominations, while they disagree over the details, they believe many of the same things that mormons believe. However, I don't think Mr. Hitchens is a devout Christian, because he has gone out of his way to use one religion against the other. He is intellectually dishonest to not point out what he worships and what his "crazy and radical" beliefs really are. You see, everyone has a belief about God, it is in our nature to seek the truth. Some are worried that if they find the truth, then they'll have to alter their lifestyle and conform to what God would have them do. And if you're a person that loves an immoral and decadent lifestyle, you'll do anything you can to prove or justify that there is no "God." So, some folks will spend their entire lives running away from truth so that they can justify their actions. In the end, we will all have to account for our actions.

I believe in God, and I believe He has a divine plan for each of us. My beliefs are similar in many ways to the majority of this country. However, it doesn't matter what religion we're talking about, the Bible gives us a great litmus test for religion in general. Jesus said, "By there fruits ye shall know them." When I look at the fruits of my Christian beliefs, I see strong families that are raising children to be productive and thoughtful citizens. I see good people who are trying to help and uplift their fellow men. And most importantly, I see people trying to live the way God would want them to live. On the other hand, when I look at the "fruits" of those who say "there is no God," I see people who are living day to day selfishly trying to please only themselves, and not caring what carnage and misery is created in their wake. I see a decadent and immoral society that is so focused on what they want right now, that they don't even realize they are really just worshipping their desires for pleasure. That's it, it is not any more profound than just plain ole' immature selfishness. Just like the child who's parents never taught him obedience and discipline. Now that child grows up and doesn't want anyone telling him what to do...including God Himself!
