Reported today is a claim that the average family paid $10 more for Thanksgiving dinner because of the crackdown on illegal immigration. Word is that the majority of farm workers are illegal and that replacing them with U.S. citizens is expensive.... citizens supposedly won't work so cheap!
So Senator Diane Finestein (D-CA) is to offer a bill offering citizenship to farm workers after 3 to 5 years in the fields.
I guess the PRICE of citizenship is the difference between what these illegals charge vs the price legals charge. Say they work for $6/hr vs $12/hr... and assume we require 4 years... so the upper limit of the cost of citizenship in Senator Finestein's mind is: 2000 hr/yr * 4 yrs * $6 = $48,000.
Now that number might not be accurate, but the GAO will certainly be asked to compute the actual "value" of a citizenship based upon the Senator's proposal and the various amendments that will certainly be offered.
I guess rich aliens can by-pass the work requirement by simply paying the $48,000 up front. Right?
Now this bit of insanity is supposedly a "good idea" because it keeps the cost of food down.... something especially important to the low-wage workers who are unwilling to take on these jobs that illegals will do!
(I suspect that at least part of the reason citizens won't work for the wages paid to illegals because CITIZENS have to pay FICA taxes as well as taxes on income, property, gasoline, heating oil/gas, water/sewage, electricity, phones, etc. ...but this is beside the point, apparently.)
Also, consider this....
Once the first crop of illegal farm workers complete their enslavement (i.e. become citizens through their working in the fields) we'll have to import a new crop of illegals to replace them.
ONCE THEY BECOME CITIZENS, THEY TOO WILL NOT DO THIS WORK SO CHEAPLY! ...after all, they'll have to pay taxes and fees for those homes, cars, phones, etc.
INSANITY! With this type of thinking in Washington (and California) it is a wonder we ever fought the Civil War!
Heck, all we HAD to do was to promise that every slave would be given citizenship once they were no longer able to work in the fields! The plantation owners would LOVE this! Once the slaves became old, rather than keeping them on the plantation as "Uncle Toms", the plantation owners could declare them citizens, put them out on welfare and let the government house and feed them.... and think of how cheap food would be!
<<< extreme sarcasm >>>
Idea: why not pay U.S. citizens enough to do this work? It would be cheaper in the long run since we will not have to keep importing illegals to keep prices down!
Vote for sanity in Washington. Do not re-elect an incumbent. Consider voting for REAL change!
