Uh?
by jodied
The comparison to cranberry juice and UTI is just asinine. If you're going to make a comparison, at least make one with similar risks. There are few risks associated with antibiotic treatment and UTI, but there are huge risks with IVF. I'm not saying that people shouldn't be allowed to go straight to that, on the contrary, I agree that for many people that would be a great option. But it ain't penicillin.

Agreed. This piece also neglects the fact that, in the case of something like a UTI they KNOW what the problem is and have proven medicines to cure the problem. If a patient's back is out of whack stretching could make it worse - but the chiropractor probably knows exactly what to move and how. So he does it.

In the case of fertility problems it's a far from perfect science. If his sperm count is low you it doesn't make sense to just increase the number of eggs being released, but you might get a semen sample and inject sperm into some eggs. The fact that in some cases there's just no explanation of why people can't get pregnant means that the best solution isn't easy to come by.

Obviously the pregnancy rate is highest for IVF - but not everyone needs to go through that.

I have some better comparisons:

treating a small patch of Basal Cell Carcinoma with mega doses of chemo and radiation(instead of just removing the patch of skin affected)

treating a headache with morphine - the junkies would love that, wouldn't they?
