it's only a matter of time...
by anorman
If specific genes exist in humans that affect intelligence and/or brain size they will be found very soon. I work in a lab at a major research university that is culling racial differences in the human genome and making transgenic "africanized" and "europeanized" mice based on these differences. If these mice have significant differences in traits related to intelligence the results will be indisputable, unlike correlative studies based on human populations living under different socioeconomic conditions. This can of worms is about to explode and I'm not sure if people are ready for the consequences.

Oh, people are ready alright. If the data leans a certain way it'll get posted on neo-Nazi websites the world over within days.

Bruce Lahn already discovered two genes that effect brain size, but have no effect on IQ. I don't doubt that genes correlating or effecting IQ will be found, but I don't think this information will be explosive or necessarily well understood for some time after their discovery. The interactions of genes involved in intelligence is likely very complex.
