While it's interesting that FDR took such an active interest in architecture, I'm not sure that I want the President taking time from more pressing issues to micro-manage urban planning or design issues.

One should reflect on the recent political mess that NY Governor George Pataki was involved with in trying to force his vision onto the rebuilding at Ground Zero. Pataki aligned himself with the vision of Daniel Liebesking and Ron Arad in the rebuilding of downtown Manhattan, but ultimately became associated with the politicizing of design work at the site.

On a more catty note - Politicians (generally speaking) are hardly leaders in terms of style.
