I'll never believe it
by jschlossberg
I don't care what the "scientific evidence" says - I'll never believe the "truth" that the races aren't equal. We've fought too hard for too long. I also am very disappointed to see Slate publish this pablum - maybe in the National Review or whatever rag Herr Bush reads, but not Slate.

Never? I'll admit that my threshold for taking this stuff to heart is very high, but I think to rule out the possibility no matter the potential evidence isn't intellectually honest. Measuring something like "intelligence" is extremely difficult if not impossible. The same goes for defining it. Each depends on our societal values and is subject to endless confounding. But one cannot deny that there is a definable set of skills which makes some individuals more likely to succeed (in terms of wealth, safety, longevity, etc.).

Relax, Mr. Schlossberg, no one says you have to believe it. That's one of the great things about this country -- you can believe what you want!

Some elderly hillbillies I knew many many years ago in my youth did not believe a man walked on the moon. No one tried to persuade them, and I am sure that after a few minutes people will not try to persuade you.
