monogamy
by dollyemu

how many people do you know that stay for their entire lives with the first person they have sex with?

how else would you define "monogamy" in a meaningful way?

the truth is that people aren't monogamous and either way, your inability to understand it is far more telling--

you seem to think sex is entirely what men seek. not even men think that. if women prefer monogamy and men prefer as many partners as possible, how is it that you think the men will win and the women lose? if there are no women to have sex with the men, they're not going to get anything.

the "monogamy" you speak of is a compromise.

I don't believe that either sex is naturally monogamous.

I'm not in the slightest bit monogamous and I've refused to live in even the pretense of it. I'm unequivocally nonmonogamous and I live my life openly and honestly as a sexual free agent.

I think that, at least in the developed world, true monogamy is virtually non-existent. At most we have what might be called "situational" monogamy, or perhaps "serial" monogamy, where partners are monogamous (or mostly so) for certain periods of time.

Our culture traditionally has valued at least temporary monogamy even among the unmarried -- those not following that being labeled "promiscuous" or (for women) "sluts." That attitude is, however, much less prevalent than in prior generations.

I am promiscuous. But, obviously, I don't consider that to be an insult.
