Prayer is not enough...
by StevieN

...Torture is needed as well. There are people who KNOW where that water went and where more can be found. Given the dire emergency faced by the people of Georgia, it's fully legitimate (and utterly necessary) to torture those whom any evidence suggests may have relevant answers. As the people of Georgia are people of GOD, then the torturing can be done in the NAME of god, with full faith that it is His will. This is torture of the EVIL, by the GOOD; and it's the moral DUTY of the people of Georgia in these trying times.

...of course... they may have to come up with something less wasteful of resources than waterboarding :)

Stevie, God doesn't encourage violence, no matter what the motive; otherwise, the Holy War would justified if that was the case. I do agree that prayer is not enough, but there is no harm in it. God said, "Ask and you shall receive," and if you have faith in Him, you won't have fear of asking something of Him that you need. Wants are where you draw the line in terms of prayer. Just thought I'd clarify those few things before you go on criticizing that event.

Don't you find it a bit ironic the prayer was held a day before the the weather pundits announced Ga would have the first rain coming in weeks. Does God have Doppler Radar?

Ummm. Apparently you haven't been paying attention to how religion is used, out here in the real world. god is used to justify violence every single day, by virtually every religion. (If anyone knows of any Buddhist jihads, let me know. Then I can drop the "virtually every" qualifier.)

Our president has used god to justify the war in Iraq and the "war on terror." Muslim extremists use god to justify their attacks on the west. Supporters of Israel constantly use god to justify Israel's brutal actions in Palestine.

Plus, given your handle, I'm guessing that you're intimately familiar with this one; Christians and Muslims continuously use god to justify the persecution of and violence towards homosexuals.

I'm sorry to break this to you, but the two largest causes of violence in this world are resources and god, in that order.

Hey, it's rude to point out straightguy's cognitive dissonance. Where would religion be without cognitive dissonance? Better to point out his weak understanding of the bible: Any dedicated bible reader would be WELL aware that some sort of sacrifice or burnt offering would be much more effective than prayer for ending a drought.

Amen.

They lack the wherewithal to do any waterboarding, however.

Stick to prayer, I say. Neither torture nor prayer will work, and prayer is somewhat more humane.

They should be able to spare the water for waterboarding -- so long as they capture and re-use the runoff. I can't imagine the evaporative losses are all that high!

How the hell do you know what some so called 'god' would encourage or not? All you did was clarify that you are a moron and very full of yourself. Thanks for the clarity!

Ask and you shall receive? Yea, right. Tell me, has anyone ever asked this so called god to prevent or at least delay their mother;s death? Did god answer their prayers? NO!

So based on that fact alone god is a loser! Grow up. Prayer is ok to fool little children but adults should know better.

Good point. Because, according to the bible, god does encourage violence. Take the examples of biblical heroes Levi and Simeon.

They were heroes because they slaughtered every single man in a neighboring Canaanite town, looted the town's riches, and took every woman of the town prisoner to be forced into marriage and/or sold into slavery. They did all of this because, the Canaanite lord had the audacity to marry their sister.

After all, god disapproved of them marrying outside the faith.

And you just clarified tht you aren't a Christian, so how would YOU know what God would encourage? Everything that happens is part of God's will; death comes to us all, genius. Just because you WANT your mother to live longer doesn't mean she will if you pray. You're not looking at the big picture. Everything that happens has a purpose, just like this water crisis, and it is all part of God's master plan, but you wouldn't know about that because you denounce His very name. God answers prayer, but in His own manner and timing. We are too simple of beings to understand why He does things the way He does them. "So based on that fact alone god is a loser!" All I have to say to that is: I pity you because you don't know how good it is to have God in your life. Prayer doesn't fool anyone; it comforts people of all ages if they believe in God and know that He is listening because He loves them.

It's better to point out YOUR weak understanding of the Bible. If you knew some basics, you'd know that sacrifices are no longer required because Christ was the ultimate sacrifice. Prayer is how we communicate with God, so what better way to ask Him for something than to PRAY.
Re: "straightguy"
by straightguy
Just because it is used as a reason doesn't make it right. We're not perfect, and we misconstrue lots of things in life, including religion. TRUE Christians embrace homosexuals because they want them to see the error of their ways so that they can repent and come to know Christ. I'm sorry to break this to YOU, but the sole cause of violence in this world is sin.

Or maybe God just has a plan and has mercy, genius.
