Just a thought
by kathleen6

What Mr. Obama did would have been no big deal if he were just some guy; however, he is running for President and that effects the situation and how his actions are perceived. I could appreciate when he decided not to wear the flag pin on his lapel, a pretty rebelious move for typically stuffy politicians. But I cannot respect his choice of not placing his hand over his heart for the National Anthem. Before anyone jumps and says "It's just a song!", rememeber it's our country's song and many, many people have fought to protect it. This song doesn't just represent what is going on in Iraq and Bush, it represents our entire country's history, and how the flag has remamined a constant symbol for Americans.

Mr. Obama was trying to make a statement, which I normally like to see from people, but along with the duty of President comes the duty of Commander-in-Chief. Is this the leader the military needs? Customs and Courtesies are one of the cornerstones of our military, and to have a leader that will not salute or pay respect is a little intimidating. Bush has already almost killed our morale as a country, let's not take it any further, mmkay? I'm pretty sure though if Mr. Obama were at a military facility, he would have paid proper respect, and then that just kind of makes him a hipocryte.

Oh yeah, Go Sox!
