It's not only email--it's phone calls too
by Loudab

I bought my oldest son a cell phone when he started high school. I envisioned he would use it for keeping up with his friends and that I would use it for keeping up with him. Both things have happened but not because he's talking to his pals or to me. He texts. He and I might be having a chat in person while, every few minutes, his cell buzzes and he fires off a responsive text to a friend. When he needs a ride home from school, he texts me:

Can u come n get me?

I text back:

Yes, I will be there in fifteen minutes. I love you. Mom

I have saved some of my favorite of his texts on my phone--perhaps someday I'll show his kids:

Got a 100 on calc test.

You know, not all of us under-25ers buy into the "LOL CUL8R" stuff. I use semicolons when I text!
