Truth be told on Armenian Genocide
by Rosie
Christopher Hitchens' piece on the Armenian Genocide resolution pending before Congress is right on the mark. There has been a mass disinformation campaign about this resolution, and I'm glad Hitchens and others are beginning to point this out. The fact that so many genocide deniers are coming out of the woodwork since the resolution passed the House Foreign Affairs Committee, shows why such a resolution is necessary. When the Turkish government is able to turn the fact of the Armenian Genocide into a "debate" - despite our own abundant documentation and the overwhelming consensus of genocide scholars - that's when the line has to be drawn: No more covering up, enabling, and lying for the deniers. Turkey's threats have not only been proven false, but we encourage those threats when we submit to them. It makes us week in foreign policy and weak in moral policy.

What does this have to do with the US? Really? How about the Armenians sorting this out with Turkey? Instead, they come to America and try to exact retribution from a nation constantly entangled in the politics of hyphenated Americans. We don't need to intervene!

Rosie,

I'm a Turk so please feel free to view my comments as "biased".

But I think we should be focusing on how to normalize relationships between Armenia and Turkey, and to get the Turkish government to open the border with Armenia.

Unfortunately this bill is regarded by hawks in Turkey as an excuse to keep the border closed, and I dont think its helping Armenians living and working in Turkey either.

While I can understand the sentiment behind the Bill, I'm glad it was stillborn. Hopefully, we will be able to find better ways of reconciling the two populations and achieving closure for both societies.

kind regards

One think people of the world choose to sweep the dust under the carpet is : Turkey has made many attempts to establish a commision to discuss the isues in WWI with Armenian Government. Some how each time it was refused and chosen to be taken to parliaments which have nothing to do with history.

Instead we had seen Armenian ASALA terrorising the world with killing and assasinating in the middle of Europe. Successfully they managed to kill 42 Turkish diplomats in 1970's in al laround the world.

What do diplomats do ? Diplomats are unarmed officilas who work for governments.

What were Turkish diplomats doing ? They were trying to show diferent perspective of the Armenian story...

What did Turkey do when Saddam gassed and killed the Kurds in Northern iraq in 1991 ? while escaping Kurds were refused by many European countries(italy-Greece closed the sea borders)

Turkey opened it;s borders immediately and accommodate 500,000 Kurds, fed , dressed and employed them for years before they migrated to other countries...

Some writers are critisizing Turkey taking action against PKK terrorist group which recently ambushed 50 Turkish soldiers within Turkey by border crossing in a mountainous region. Not to mention over 25 years killed ver 30,000 people including Kurds who refused to support their campaign..

Where were these writers when all these attacks were happening in Eastern Turkey ? Why they did not protest against killings of babies or support of terrorism ?

PKK also who has a business of money laundering , drug dealing is recognised as a Terrorist Organisation by European Union and the USA.

As we saw from the above example once up on a time ASALA who killed innocents and PKK sponsered and suppored by some Western countries are now illegal because they did so much damage that you can not stand behind them.Terror is terror , you can not discriminate one terror from the other.
