On "outbreeding"...
by eashamer
I believe Entine's numbers concerning outbreeding are way off, i.e., no where near the half a percent he claims.

Although I cannot cite specifics, I'm aware that many Jews fall away from their faith and communities, simply being absorbed in whatever community they find themselves in after graduating from college, etc. Over the years, this has been a concern to many rabbis, etc., as I understand. If this is so, whouldn't it be reasonable to expect that they then inter-marry without being compelled to stay within Jewish bounds? No matter, the "half per cent of outbreeding" smells fishy.

i'm not sure if it's specified one way or another but i would guess that someone who falls away from their religion is no longer counted among the group. therefore, those stats aren't counting them, only those who remain avowed jews.
