Boy are societal expectations powerful or what ! I bet that we could even get cats and dogs to talk only if we all started expecting them to do that and demanding it :)

On the other hand, in my academically competitive high school, although there were approximately equal representations of both genders, fully half the BOYS were Jewish, while Jewish girls were a decided minority. Does that suggest that intelligence is sex-linked in Jews, or merely that the pressure for academic success was inordinately (and successfully) applied to male children in Jewish households??

It's just that i don't buy it that social pressure and parental expectation is enough to make 50% of the boys at your elite school jewish. This kind of overrepresentation is found everywhere at elite academic institutions. The social pressure is responsible for just a bit of the overrepresentation , imho .
