NOTE; I herein use the word "gaming" to sometimes desribe games of chance, and "gamers" as those who play them......because, for those who practice, and calculate the odds, rightly or wrongly believe they are not gambling.....they are taking calculated risks. ie: Walking across the street blindfolded is gambling. Looking both ways as one crosses the street is taking a calculated risk......

A WAY TO HELP LAS VEGAS OUT OF ITS CURRENT SLUMP

I'm very sorry to hear - and/or read - of a decline in gaming/gambling in Las Vegas. Gaming/Gambling truly gives the intelligent, so-called "little person", a chance for big bucks! The allure is great.....but like other risky things....bungie jumping, climbing mountains, Olympic calibre swimming, etc.......the main thing is practice, practice, practice.

Is it possible to win -- and win big? Yes!!!!!! IF one practices, (a lot), is not greedy, and knows the game, (and the odds of the game), one is playing. Books I have read on gaming have said to take 20x one's average bet, as a minimum. I have found, on the safe side, to take at least 40x one's average bet.

And give tips!!!!! Big tips!!!! Hopefully, one will not be barred from one's favourite game, (too soon), if one gives big tips!

I have never been to Las Vegas. I have been to Atlantic City about 5 times.....losing every time, but goinamesg back to practice, practice, practice again at home. However, I have also won $200 a day -- at home, practicing at online casinos.

The government really should end this "new prohibition". Is it really possible -- in a land filled with ambitious, intelligent believers of the American Dream -- to sustain it? We allow government lotteries in so many states....and, (as a famous gaming writer, whose name escapes me at present) once said: "The odds are so much greater at state lotteries, than at casino games, that it makes the casino owners look like philanthropists!" This is SO true -- as most state lotto games are based, more or less, on the game of "Keno"........one of the VERY WORST table games in the entire gambling repertoire1 (There have been professional craps players, professional roulette players, professional blackjack players......but who ever heard of a professional keno player? No-one of whom I have ever heard....)

Why, with mercenary smugness, has the Federal Goverment -- without so much as allowing each state to vote on this issue for itself -- prohibited legalized online gaming their FELLOW American citizens? It is irrational! Too often, sadly, power corrupts. AND TOO MANY PEOPLE IN THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FORGET THAT THEY ARE JUST, (IN THE WORDS OF WILL ROGERS) ' HIRED HELP !

PLEASE TAKE CAREFUL NOTE; In other countries -- Canada, England, Lithuania ( ! ), Australia, and others -- where online gaming IS legal, there has been NO increase in hedonism, and NO increased mob influence!!!!! There is, however, in these countries, a great deal more happiness both from winners, and from the governments there.....who always collect a legal tax on all winnings. WHY can't we have legal online gaming in the USA? We are supposed to be the "land of the free and the home of the brave." Freedom? Bravery? You need BOTH of these for online gaming.......but, sadly, in the USA at this point, in the very "land of the free, and home of the brave".......we're not allowed to!

Surely, being able to win $200 online every day will make gamers more careful about how they bet. Because $200 a day would equal $73,000. a year. If one can only go to Las Vegas or Atlantic City to gamble, however -- say for 2 weeks out of the year -- one would have to make $5214.29 every day of those 14 days, in order to make the same amount. PLUS the cost of travel, hotel, meals, etc. (And $10,426.58 every day, if one had only 7 days for the "vacation" in LV or AC.) Online gaming -- convenient and practical -- thus would encourage gamers to be happier with smaller wins....because they could try their luck, (or reap the rewards of carefully, mathematically-calculated practice), every day, -- and not for only 3.8% (14 days), or 1.92% (7 days) of the year.

Americans should ONLY be allowed to gamble online at AMERICAN-BASED ONLINE CASINOS, (thereby increasing the revenues of these casinos......and helping Las Vegas!!!!! -- and Alantic City -- and Peoria, Illinois, or whatever other cities decide to set up shop of online-gaming casinos from within their borders.)

After setting up shop, (casinos), and registering, (players), fees would immediately have to be paid to the US Government, even before taxes would be paid on all winnings.

Winnings from gaming should be taxed at twice the amount from other income, losings should be allowed deductions at just one-half the amount of other losses. This would be the "sin-tax" paid. ( For those of us without cars, and/or without the time off to spend 7 or 14 or 30 days in Las Vegas or Atlantic City......it would be more than worth it! )

Gamers would have to take PROFICIENCY TESTS, in the games of their choice, to see that they'd at least have an even chance, against the American-based casinos.

Sometimes players win. Sometimes they lose. But, in countries where online gambling is legal......the government always collects a nice big tax!!!!! (It has also been said that if players of, say, roulette, won all the time, the casinos would close the game, and there would be no roulette. And if players lost all the time at roulette, no-one would play the game, and there would be no roulette. But players both win and lose. So....roulette, (and all the other casino games), continue.!

There are those who say gambling is evil because it doesn't help anyone except the winner -- be the winner either gambler or casino. Yes, gambling is NOT like working in a hospital. But a great deal of the money one makes from gaming can (and probably will), be spent on charity. Gamers are truly very nice people. And most are quite brilliant, besides. For those like myself -- potential Mensa members, (I only failed my pre-test as I have yet to understand "progressive sequencing". I aced EVERY other part of the test. I also compose music and write poetry); but who are handicapped, and do not have a car or, at present a job, who are "senior citizens", (whatever that means).......legalized American online gaming would be a boon to income, ego....and allow me to thank the government by paying more in federal income taxes.......which, by golly, I truly and really want to do!!!!!

I am sure other people have many of the same -- or other, just as valid reasons, for yearning for the return of legalized online gaming to the USA. For these and so many more reasons, I earnestly BEG the Federal Government to pleasd end this " New Prohibition". To repeat -- no increased hedonism, no increased mob influience, in other countries. where it is presently legal to gamble online. Why NOT in the USA.....land of the free(?), home of the brave(?)

Las Vegas land-based gaming may be in a decline. But -- like so many other industries -- I am sure that it will find new life, and new profits, with an online version -- which will help players, casino owners in Las Vegas, and elsewhere, and the US Governent as well! It is only common sense!

END THE NEW PROHIBITION..........PLEASE!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry I missed your point. I just don't see how online gaming will help Las Vegas. Will they then start providing an abundance of alcohol or reduce the prices of buffets? I don't think those things will ever come back. The "fun" is gone and online gaming preprogrammed to lose doesn't bring it back.

Dear MinMan:

Thanks for your reply!

Sorry you missed my point. Will try to clarify it:

Online gaming will bring money to Las-Vegas based casinos, and casino owners. (if and when American online gaming casinos again become legal. For a very short time, the MGM Grand came up with a real online-casino! It was fun playing at it....and also fun knowing it was an AMERICAN-BASED online casino. Of course -- to comply with the current, draconian law -- it closed the online casino within a very short time.) However, in the future, if and when Amnerican land-based casinos open online casinos....they'[ll probably make money from these online-casios. With this money, the Las Vegas land-based casino owners can bring back an abundance of alcohol, and also reduce the price of buffets, at land-based casinos, for those who can travel to LV, and enjoy the "live" games.

No......I really don't think that online games are "programmed for gamers to lose." I'[ve won many games from them, (for fun money, of course), and also lost. It's doubly challenging -- and double fun and thrill at winning -- I think, when one wins over a computer! ( Think: If everyone always lost playing against "pre-programmed for the gamer to lose" online casino games, no one would play them, and they'd all close. Such is not the truth!) The trick of playing online games is just to think of them as regular games.....you CAN win at them. I have! (And I've also lost....that's the way it goes at ALL casinos...)

I know what you mean by "no fun" anymore at many land-based casinos. I went to the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City many times.....with their "packages", which included a show, and two meals for each day stayed. The packages disappeared, suddenly....and so we didn't go any more. A real pity....because the Taj in Atlantic City is a magnificent place just to see....even if you don't gamble. I guess most of the casinos -- both in LV and AC -- don't offer "packages" any more. Or at least -- as you mention -- have hiked up the price of alcohol and buffets. But allowing land-based American casinos to also offer online gaming, will bring additional revenues to the casino owners......and so they can offer the valued "comps" or extras, once again, to customers at their land-based casinos!

Again, thanks for your reply! Hope I have clarified why online gaming can only help the land-based casio owners, their customers..............the government, and everybody else!
