Debate: did anyone change their mind
by John Dickerson SlateIcon
Reading the responses quickly I get the feeling that people came away with reinforcement of their preexisting views. This the Clinton campaign would like. Am I wrong? Did anyone watch the debate and change their mind about the candidate or start leaning one way or another?

Not me.

Early in the race,I was open to Hillary,Edwards,Richardson and Obama. I was leaning Richardson at first but then he came out with his plan to withdraw all US forces in Iraq by the end of this year. That wasn't a realistic scenario and probably killed any chance he may have had to win the nomination.

Sometime earlier this year I saw some stuff about Obama's votes on specific issues as State Senator in Illinois. Wish I had saved that. When I saw it my thought was that a GOP opponent is gonna hammer him on that stuff in a POTUS general election campaign. Not much discussion came of it then. I think the GOP is holding it in reserve in case Obama wins the nomination it was a little too liberal even for me.

So that made it a choice between Edwards or Hillary for me. Both have some baggage and drawbacks. It is my opinion that Hillary is a stronger candidate against the entire GOP field.

I hesitate to say I changed my mind, but it did get me thinking. I was (maybe still am) and Edwards person. Hillary is too conservative for me and she did get called out on it, and Obama is too vague. But mainly, it made me consider Biden as a legitimate candidate. We'll see if the polls get behind, because he did do a great job.

I have been a Biden supporter for months, but thought I could support Clinton, if Biden dropped out. After last night, I don't think so.
