Whether pot should be legal or not is beside the point. I think it will be a long time before people actually agree what should be done with pot and hemp. But if they think today's high tech, educated kids actually relate to this commercial, they are stoned themselves. I would be ashamed to work for the agency which created this campaign. I understand they did it pro-bono, but still they should have done a little market research to see what would attract kid's attention. As an adult with high school students around, they usually laugh and make fun of the commercials, or they think they are dumb. This makes it obviously clear they have not hit their target market and their message has not gotten across. The editor for the original article brings up good points about the plusses and draw backs of other ad campaigns, but really to say because this one has certain things the other ones do not, doesn’t make it effective. Ads should get people talking, and thinking, this one sorely lacks in both respects. Really the responsibility for educating our kids of the “ill” effects of drugs is the responsibility of the parents. However today’s parents are not active in their kid’s lives and there is no open communication with is evident in many aspects of society. So until we have parents taking control and educating their children, we can advertise all we want, it will fall on deaf ears. So the long and short of it is this ad campaign is a waste of money because it is not effective.
