Scooter Libby
by jcscrib
It seems Christopher Hitchens' transformation into a right winger is now complete. He has adopted the Bush administration's tactic of rearranging the facts to suit their premise. Just to name one misfact: Richard Armitage divulged the identity of Valerie Plame to Bob Woodward, not to Bob Novak. I realize the similarity of first names can be confusing, but the fact is, Woodward chose not to run the story, while Novak jumped on it. Therein lies the basis for the investigation. Novak revealed the name of a covert operative -- and she was covert, according to CIA guidlines -- and in doing to, endangered the lives of those she had worked with who were still in the field. The Republican insistence of naming Armitage as the culprit is obvious. He was a State Department employee, not a member of the White House staff like, say, Karl Rove or even the veep himself. Better to lay the blame on Foggy Bottom. Sorry Chris, we used to respect you when you did The Minority Report for The Nation. Now you are getting closer to Ann Coulter. A pity.
