Recently caught Mad Woman
by Fenella

Tyler Perry reminds me of silent melodramas, with exaggerated acting, black and white issues, clear moral messages. I don't mean that in a negative way. I recently saw Diary of a Mad Black Woman on TNT and enjoyed it. It was a relief to see a piece of popular culture that was positive towards christianity, towards ideas of self control and restraint, towards goodness.

I notice that the liberal media that would really hate him if he was white are afraid to critisize him because he is black. If he was white he would be denounced as a right wing nut. But because he is black, maybe they think he has no influence over most of the country and they don't fear him.

Interesting point. Maybe there is a soft bigotry of low expectations towards Tyler Perry.
