I agree, but that doesn't matter
by Eigenvector

I think the ads work well, but I don't do drugs of any kind so does it really matter?

Ultimately I think that is the inherent problem with ads like this, they offer up a view of pot smokers that non-drug users see, but that's the only people who see it. Drug users certainly don't see themselves in that light, regardless of the truth of the matter, so to them its just one big lie. And maybe it is one big lie, I couldn't tell you, I don't hang out with drug addicts, alcoholics, or smokers.

I think these ads won't work, if only because the target audience will never agree with the message, or if this board is any indication they will agree - sitting around doing nothing all day every day is pretty groovy.

Another problem is that these ads and people like you assume there MUST BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH SMOKING MARIJUANA.

50% of people in the US have smoked marijuana. If there are 150 million people 'sitting around doing nothing all day', I don't know where they all live.

Whether or not you're aware of it, you and I both know at least a couple of people who are very successful, normal people and who are (GASP!) pot smokers.

Until these ads find some way (lots of luck) to reconcile the fact that our two LEGAL and widely used drugs (alcohol and tobacco) are far more dangerous and addictive than marijuana, they'll have no effect at all - teens are avid hypocrisy hunters, and our 'war on drugs' is an easy target.

I agree with bugger. The reason that the anti-smoking Truth campaign was so effective is that appealed to teenagers' sense of not wanting to be fooled (played) by the manipulations of the tobacco companies.

Not at all, but your response outlines a very very common reaction from people who do drugs - extreme animation or anger whenever negative sentiment is displayed about drugs. I'm past the point of caring whether or not someone wants to spend their days toking - its none of my business so long as it stays out of my way. Buy a bag of Doritos and shut the hell up.

Hit away, I personally think it should be legal, taxed but legal or grow it yourself. A very common quote heard is that pot is a weed and simple to grow. So grow it then and quit propping up the dealer market.

32 posts in the last 6 days and you're worrying about other people sitting around doing nothing?
Funny...

Wow, weird that qualifies as 'extreme animation or anger' from someone who wrote: 'Dog Breeders Should Be Shot'.

There are many USERS of the above substances that aren't drug addicts or alcoholics. But, you probably don't hang out with them either. The world is a better place.
