Al Gore and climate change

Mother earth has been thought climatic cycles since the start of time, it can be and has been documented in ice core data from Greenland, the Arctic and Antarctic. 100 years of temperature records do not establish a trend. In my opinion the jury is still out on whether we are in an up trend.

The Nobel Prize is no longer prestigious in my estimation. Any organization that would recognize Arafat and Begin, two of the most notorious terrorists of the last century, and give them a peace prize is just preposterous. Giving a prize to Mr. Gore is no big deal, esp. when he has not done any of the research to earn the distinction.

Dear Mr. Goofygeologist:

First, how do I know that title is legit? Second, you mispelled: "through" as "thought"; maybe you ought to be more careful. Not a good sign viz your thinking. Third, the ice core samples show that the spike we are seeing in the past century is much above the rises in the past; whatever the cycle, if there is one, the overwhelming science community consensus is that humans have clearly contributed to this spike, and it's only getting worse. Check out RealClimate.org for actual climatologists' info, and then put on your seatbelt. The award was not only to Gore, incidentally, but to a group. Further, Gore has tirelessly pushed a sluggish and unaware public into at least being aware that we might be in peril. His efforts might just save your children's world. Not a bad thing, eh? No big deal. Hmmm. At least Gore is doing something. What are you doing?

Goofygeologist,

Maybe you should re-watch check your calculations on the polar ice cap readings. I do recall they pulled something like 3,500 (not an exact number) years of past data from Antartica. NOT 100!

Why do people hold such resentment toward Al Gore for winning the Nobel? True, he wasn't integral in the primary research done that established Global Warming as a phenomenon, but who would you pick in his stead? The great majority of the leading respected scientific community that agrees with him and did the leg-work behind his activism? I doubt any of them are upset at his winning the prize. To the contrary, I am sure they are proud that their work has been given recognition by the world in the form of the Nobel prize.

In college football, the Heisman is the most prestigious individual trophy, and when a team wins a championship, by and large reporters seek out the quarterback. There are many, many more people who are responsible for a winning game or season (linemen, backs, other players, coaches, scout team, medics, owners/boosters, even fans), but the team is personified in the quarterback, sometimes the coach. Al Gore is the quarterback of the Climate Change movement. Even if you disagree with the facts/theory of climate change, you have to agree with his position in the movement.

Low Blow! I guess if someone isn't a perfect speller than his points are also incorrect. Of course this is typical of the globial warming crowd. They are so much smarter than us uneducated drips. If for some reason buying in on this whole global warming issue makes you feel better than thats fine with me. But, don't expect everyone else to do so. As for web sites, they're are several good sites that make a pretty darn good case that the US goverment blew up the twin towers. Does that make it true? They make a pretty strong case!! Of course I don't think it's true, but lots of people do believe this. I believe we all should do our part in keeping our world clean for future generations. But, to change our whole way of life and distroy our nations economy doing so, is simply foolish. By the Way I Didn't Spell Check, just for you.
