Future assumptions

The writer's prognostications are both sad and ludicrous. First, simple physics will tell you that with finite resources, the nonsensical 'million dollars a day' figure is simply hyperbole, a red herring, thrown in to muddy the waters. Incomes will most likely decline, not increase, in real earning power over the long haul, unless there is substantial leveling off in the use of resources. Should we care about future generations? Why even ask such a question. Only someone raised today would even venture into that ethically bereft zone. Of course we need to think about future generations; we are, after all, a species. It is telling that someone would think in the terms he has outlined. Duh. Not only that, but, hey, here's a crazy idea, worry about the health of our planet and ecosphere. Nutty, I know, but we're unlikely to be living elsewhere for the forseeable future. Kind of like checking your own house for fire hazards, keeping up with the laundry, fixing sagging beams, you know, being a grown-up. The bottom line is that Gore at least is watching, analyzing, doing something, actually involved in what is clearly a real problem. The writer is on the sidelines, like Bjorn Lomborg, whining, and wishing it all away. Those naughty future generations. How dare they expect us to behave. Wonder if he would like to switch places and see what happens.
