Noisy Neighbors
by ard_vrk

Once again, Prudie is COMPLETELY off the mark.

One wonders what she'd have said if - instead of them having sex - they were fighting. Would she have suggested earplugs then? Or how about a loud television or stereo from upstairs at bedtime?

No - the neighbors should be told to knock the noise level down. It's the NOISEMAKERS that need to change their noise level - not up to everyone else to have to put up with it or make other allowances like earplugs or white noise machines.

One can tactfully tell them to quiet down - or better yet, tell him to put a pillow over her face. (Or her - his, if that's the case).

My ex and I found a way to let our neighbors know how loud they were----we opened our windows and got a little loud ourselves. The next day we saw our neighbors, who waved sheepishly at us. Problem solved.

I was half of a noisy couple a little while ago, and one of our neighbors handled the situation with tact and flare. They left an anonymous note under our door that went something like this...

"Hello, We are your neighbors. While we appreciate young love in bloom, it is at times difficult to get the sleep we need while the sounds of your passion drift through our windows. Please do your best to keep the volume of your lovemaking to a low simmer. Best regards..."

We promptly had the note framed.

very poor advise

You are way off base. To only focus on the moisemakers is poor advise. If the walls are indeed to thin than the landlords should make improvements that help BOTH sides.

Who determines what is a reasonable noise level? My friend was the so called noisemaker but I felt her noise level was reasonable. The Apt was designed poorly AND the people below her were (I felt) unreasonable (they wanted total quite).

One must approach this from BOTH sides.

I am SURE that my hysterical sniffing, snorting, crescendo of laughter every night that they started in would be enough of a deterrent. Maybe they should give that a try? And really, why should they have to live with the loud sexers? That’s just obnoxious and no one deserves to have to listen their neighbors every night.

Loud sex is obnoxious? Glad I am not married to someone like you! Oh wait, I was once. Won't do that again.
