Ah, Bloodsport
by Sundown
It was the first time I'd ever seen a guy do the splits like that--with his legs on chairs, he does the splits PAST 90 degrees. As a teen I tried working on my stretching to see if I could ever do that. Not even close. I never even got close to doing normal splits.

It's best to simply not think about the plot too hard. But, next time you watch it, pause for a moment and try to figure out what would possess some of these guys to enter a fight to the death. My favorite is the little guy who twirls around, scrapes the ground and works all the weird angles but gets his back broken by the main baddie who outweighs him by probably 150 pounds.

Maybe it's just me, but if you weigh 110 sopping wet, it's probably not advisable to enter a death match conducted in a confined area where the bigger guys are sure to eventually get hold of you.

Not for nothing, but it's not a fight to the death. Most of the guys just get knocked the fuck out. And it's not entirely clear that the little guy gets killed by the big guy. I mean, the sound effects suggest it. But they make a big when Bolo Yeung kills the dude near the end. The referee looks like he's going to cry.

I'm not saying the plot necessarily has to be cogent or coherent or anything, but I like to think that the little guy just gets bearhugged out, and maybe gets a couple of discs realigned. It might even have been therapeutic. I like that little guy.

I like that notion of the disks being realigned. Sort of a cross between a trip to the chiropractor and Fight Club.

Was Bloodsport the movie that someone got punched in the nuts? (In my list of the most horrifying movie scenes ever. Enough for one to break a cold sweat.)

I'm asking 'cause there is another JCVD tournament fighting movie that was very similar. It's almost as if you're watching the same movie.
