Mitt Romney
by herbert thackray

Even from this distance Romney strikes me as the most offensively smarmy, oleaginouis, self-righteous and just plain crooked politician I have seen or heard about. (What is this Mitt crap anyway - its a name for a cuty and cuddly puppy).

He was a liberal - gay rights etc to get elected in Massa chusetts - and now he's turned vicious hard right - you could see him eating his own offspring (except they're probably big enough to beat him off) - to get elected president.

Strange things happen in politics, but here in the 54th state (after Canada and Mexiso etc) we would feel very afraid to have a nasty crazy like this with his sleazy grin on the white House website.

Romney was never a liberal. And there has never been even a hint of a charge against him being crooked. But you are entitled to find him swarmy.

From the Boston Herald: "Federal officials are probing scathing allegations that the Romney[Governor] administration falsely claimed to conduct safety inspections in the Big Dig tunnel that collapsed and killed a woman in July. "

While Mitt's fatcat Republican friends were profiting handsomely on the "Big Dig" tunnel contracts by using inferior materials and not meeting safety codes, Mitt looked the other way instead of enforcing and conducting safety inspections. As long as his fatcap Republican friends made the appropriate payoffs, Mitt was invisible to their crimes.

Only when the ceilings started falling down in the "Big Dig" and killing people did Mitt decide that maybe his Republican friends did cut too many corners and then he became involved.

Just like Michael Brown, HeckOfaJob Mitt.

Well, except for that whole "support of gay rights" thing .

And don't forget the "pro-choice" thing.

I guess you're of the opinion that if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it's not a duck because it changed its mind and says it's not a duck anymore.

Nice try, but that smear won't stick.

T4CS,
You forget the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority was an independent entity not subject to direct oversight from Beacon Hill.  It wasn't until after Milena Del Valle was unfortunately crushed by the falling celiing that Romney finally obtained a mandate to make the MTA directly accountable to the governor's office.

Your unfounded accusation of nepotism and bribery is spurious at best.  Romney returned any campaign donations from individuals within the involved contractors.  Additionally, he recommended that the republican head of the MTA, Matthew Amerello, be removed in 2005 but lacked the legislative support to do so at the time.

Finally, if you look at the composition of the MTA board, the majority of them were Democrats.  Do they not share the blame in this fiasco?

More like:

If it walks like a duck, smells like a duck, looks like a duck and quacks like Mitt, it's a muck.

But my real concern is that Mitt's never invited me to a Sunday service in Boston's local Tabernacle. And I figure that any organization that gets a religion tax subsidy/exemption from the public shouldn't bar the door to the public, unless it's more cult-like than not. See also: Scientology.

He was also out of the state almost all the time during the last two years of his stint--busy getting his presidential campaign in gear. He should be charged back rent for the office he rarely used but prevented someone else from using.

How many Pres. wannabees are going to use Massachusetts as a "springboard"?
