Report of Abuse
by richard noggin

Hey Freditor,

Your site crashes my computer. Thank you.

It's only the FRAY that does this bullshit, when I click on a post - I hear click, click, click, and internet explorer freezes. I have to shut down and log off (my computer - not SLATE, I can't log off SLATE because you douchebags freeze my computer). I can't close the window, I can't minimize and I can't read posts.

FRAY sucks.

Thanks for fucking up my computer asshole (whoever the fuck you are).

I'm done.

-Richard Noggin..

I've had the same thing happen.

But somehow you managed to post this detailed account of your technical difficulties, complete with expletives, with seemingly little trouble at all. Curious.

I can explain that (sarcasm notwithstanding)

The problem is with the ads - not all of them, just some of them. And they cycle. I'm guessing because they're run off separate servers, which get bogged down, and you'all have ensured that ads load before content (thanks loads for that, btw).

My question (which I've asked before) - does anybody ever subject these to any kind of usability test? It's getting to the point I don't want to be here anymore.

When you get that reaction to someone as addic enthusiastic about the Fray as I am, you've got a problem.

No other site I visit creates these problems for me, and I'm clearly not an isolated case.

Think you could mention it to someone?

Oh, and in case you were interested:

Firefox, XP, running on an Athlon 2000m, plenty of memory, with very good broadband.

Firefox? There's help for you: Click the Tools menu, then click Add Ons. When that opens, click the link on the bottom that says "Get extensions" and when that opens, find Adblock. Install it whatever way it tells you to, and your Firefox browser will now have an impregnable force field against ads.

I probably shouldn't tell you this, so read it quick. I hear a black helicopter overhead...

Gotta run!

Thanks for your assistance and concern, asswipe.

Hey, brother.

I took your advice, and the whole loading issue is completely resolved. For Slate to set up a system in which I am forced to bypass their revenue generation mechanism in order to use the site is, well, sort of ludicrous, isn't it?

Regards,

Dougie

I suspect the new revenue stream will be that the ad blockers will generate sales for some sort of ad displayer that defeats the ad blocker. Then, the ad blockers will decide to charge a low monthly fee to maintain their signature files so you, the hapless victim, can defeat the defeaters of the ad blockers.

Then we and the advertisers will be paying people to either display or not display the ads. It will be a win-win situation for the people who maintain the ad-blocker stuff.
