Enough with the Oversized Expectations
by dobbsfox

It's a very American thing to elevate the young, hot, and talented to the position of genre-defining world-savior. That seems to be the case with Eisenberg's assessment of Danielle de Niese. The thing is, opera is too big and deep for one person to steer it in any direction.

Additionally, I think it's unfair to saddle Ms. de Niese with the expectation that she will bring whole generations to opera. Such lofty expectations guarantee disappointment. She looks like she is on her way to having a spectacular singing career. Let's not spoil it by setting her up as the pied piper of opera for the coveted 18-49 demographic.
