Uh, the last time I checked, making people dangerously stupid did not create peaceful circumstances. The sort of people who believe Al Gore's scientific ideas are the same sort who would start a war to defend those ideas, or preemptively attack for those ideas.

But he united the world's musicians to waste tons of electricity for dismal ratings! How is that not about peace?

I suppose I'm conflicted on the issue of global warming. On one hand it seems to compound the problem that has created waste and the use of oil etc. On the other it seems like people wouldn't pay attention to the oil crisis otherwise.

I guess I see global warming as a way of someone saying cynically, "ROBOTS use less oil! Find alternative energy!" However, the problem isn't global warming, it's the fact that people are frickin robots, and robots are too stupid to find other means of living.

Whatever my problem with global warming and Al Gore's theory of it, I still must say that he seems like a nice enough guy.

I can't help but think the next world war will be supposedly about imposing some sort of environmental regulation on other countries, or them us. That would be hypocritical of us, so hypocritical it would be like attacking a country for having nuclear weapons. Oh wait...

Ok, i'm confused now. If global warming doesnt concern you, then what exactly do you mean by the oil crisis?

Do you mean the peak production theory, our support of saudi arabia and other despotic regimes, or the fact that we now have to import most of our oil putting us at an economic disadvantage? Those are all problems to me, but I'm wondering what your concern is.

He is leading the way for the entire world to work together to find a solution to global warming.

I doubt gore perpetuated much actual peace. And yeah, his version of global warming is a bit over the top.

But you're nuts if you think that planetary management is not going to be a major issue in the next century. (of which global warming is one of many issues) What is talking about touches on the energy supply, use of natural resources, and economics. The environment and how we handle it and its resources is going to be a huge undercurrent going foward.

Gore has basically said, "pay attention to this, and lets start coming up with solutions." To me, that is the complete opposite of nihilism.

The last thing I want is to be too hot. When it's cold you can throw on a sweater, when it's hot you can't do anything.

I don't want to be overly beholden to OPEC.

yeah I'm with jwschmidt. Global management will be a big issue from here on out. The atmosphere is maybe three miles high and the deepest part of the ocean is six miles deep. Added together, 11 miles of living zone papering over a rock 7600 miles in diameter. The living zone on this planet seems vast to us, but we are so small.

But if the earth was a croquet ball left in the grass overnight, the living zone would be as slight and as tenuous as the dew on the ball. Just 2000 years ago there were a few tens of million people in the world. Now there are 8 billion. It doesn't take much from a world of 8 billion people to pollute that dew to death. Only the rate of poisoning is in dispute now, and whatever that rate is, it has been exponential for some time, really gaining steam now.

Sorry if some of you don't see this, but its an emotional blindness. One can now find PVC's in Antarctic ice packs thousands of years old. Poisons will diffuse to all parts of the globe. Faster and faster and faster, as exponential functions do. Gore's right about the big issue.

Otter, right wing nut jobs will never be happy until the entire globe is paved over for their SUVs and pickup trucks and the atmosphere clogged with the pollution from their factories. They'll miss hunting ducks? I"m sure they'll find some sort of replacement to hone their hunting skills.....

I think death and destruction , more than personal discomfort, are the main concerns for global warming.

I'm not a right-wing-nut. I just give people enough credit to assume they'll manage natural resources efficiently without inviting the circus to town.

Al Gore is obviously a nice guy.
