If Gates is good, maybe we should ask him to stay.

What do you think the chances are that a Dem President might be willing to begin his (or her) term with some bipartisanship and outside-the-box thinking, by offering to retain gates for a couple of years, to finish the process of winding down major operations in Iraq? I'm thinking mainly of Obama, though I guess Hillary might be willing to do that, too; Bill had a Republican SecDef, after all.

Someone from 'Devil Incarnate's' administration? Skaters from Hades will win the Stanley Cup before that happens. Besides, if it's the Clinton's, I doubt if Gates is willing to play the political games Hill will insist on by all cabinet members(remember the 900 FBI raw data files that went to the Whitehouse 'somehow'?)

Yes, I do remember. I also remember that after a lengthy investigation by a Republican counesl no fault was found with the Clintons or anyone on their staff. Did you forget that part?
No fault was FOUND- the operable word here.

Still didn't answer the question of how they got there. Their misuse is clearly a criminal act and they was no legal reason for raw FBI files being physically present in the White House; there was merely no evidence of who was involved (certainly no inconvenient leaks in that Administration).

Remember how Sandy Berger missplaced classified documents down his pants? That was a good joke around my office for a while...I wouldn't bet my career on using that one as an excuse.
Possible, and likely

Gates would be an excellent choice for Clinton. Remember Bill hired a Rep as his SecDef, to bolster his image.

Gate's is a Texan and God help us, haven't we had enough total fuckups from there for a while?

He's Kansan, not Texan, dummy

Auros' idle musings one day, conventional wisdom a year later?
