This was a good article but repeats a confusing fallacy that the energy-efficieny folks let stands because it is easy.
Light bulbs, whether they are incandescent or fluorescent, do not emit gresshouse gases. They use less electricty, meaning less fuel was burned to produce said electricity, meaning less greenhouse gases were emitted during the combustion of the fuel. It is not to say that this reduction of emmission is not important, it just conjures up an inappropriate fear of closets filling up with greenhouse gas, like it was a sourece of radon, carbon monoxide, or something dangerous being emitted by a bulb left on all weekend.
While probably 80% of the time flourescent lighting is better, there still is a place for incandescent bulbs. For example, the light in my attic is on only a few hours a year, so the savings of switching would take a century to payback. Also when doing a very detailed task, the punch you get from a hundred-watt incandescent in a tasklight is hard to duplicate except with pretty high-end fluorescents.
