Dahlia, I find these times to be the most exciting SCOTUS period in all of American history. Someone took a little finger from the dike that separates us from their world and the revelations that have arisen are more than we should bear.
I prefer justice (at least the branch) reside in a pristine world where our greatest minds reconcile and reveal the fuzzy logic of politics and policy; or and even of outright crime and corruption. The distraction of any adjective, such as "activist," is anathama to simply doing the job--honestly.
It was polite (and politic) of you to conclude with a paragraph that says we readers can find nuance within Thomas' black and white rendering of our world as he views it. But do you think he will ever recuse himself on any issue? We both know Justice Thomas will assert his neurotic view, interminably.
The New York Times and The Washington Post, in editorials and op-eds, preceeded your review and added a level of vitriol you cannot afford, but we are better served at a time when writing contemporanious history (about) is a valued commodity.
Justice Clarence Thomas is so recondite that he begs for his own removal. We should, but will not impeach the president, vice-president, attorney general, or any of the many usurpers. As a youth in Ohio I never agreed with a prominent billboard calling for the impeachment of Justice Warren. Now I understand.
