Nuns treated poorly by Catholic Church
by jenny L

This is not new in the Catholic Church. Beginning in the seventies I began to hear about Sisters I knew who were forced to go out into the fray in their late fifties and get any job they could so as to build up Social Security. Reason given? "We (the church) can no longer afford to support you and you need to get social security payments for your retirement.

This was the final reason for my total disenchantment with the Catholic Church. I have since left the church all together.

I find it all disgusting, traumatizing and sinful in the extreme.

I wonder who taught those priests when they were young?

You really don't seem to understand how the Church works.

It is based on the old Presbyter system of having individual Diocese elect Bishops, who then follow the philosophical base of the Bishop of Rome. Hence, there is the Papal authority and the Diocene authority. The Pope has no real say about what happens in an individual Diocese, but can issue overarching decrees that may or may not affect actual individual behaviors/responses.

Regardless, Orders of Nuns, of Monks, and even of some Priests, exist outside of a Diocese. They are taken care of by their Order and must be done by such. The Diocese is not obliged to do that, nor is there revenue taken for that. Its taken for their Parishoners.

Now, many Orders are poor because of people like you claiming you want to help them but have never contributed to them, so they have to live on handouts from the Diocese. But when you need 1/10 of your property to fulfill a legal obligation, those handouts can no longer come.

Typical. I'm not surprised by this. Although they have more to loose in the long run, it's not just the Catholic church that is this way, many other religions act the same way. Money and power first last and always. Religious institutions protect their power base and assets above all else. It's bad enough that they have decided that the nuns and others not involved in scandal have to pay. But it's even worth when the church has more than enough assets and wealth to pay for this without even noticing the drop in the wealth they've amassed. But as I said before they've got to protect and increase their wealth. They should just be honest and openly worship money and power, that is their true God. The chirch is just their vehicle to amass their two main goals in life.

"Money and power first last and always."

By money and power first, you mean a bunch of people who blackmailed the Church, won 1/10th of their assets instead of putting forth legal charges because they wanted money and not justice, and forced the Church to sell off many of its properties?

The Nuns aren't the only ones affected. These homes are less than 1% of the total assets being sold off.
