It was a very interesting article. You have to be careful reading it to make your own mind decide what Bush said. Mr. Kaplan added what he thought Bush was saying. Mr. Kaplan did a good job breaking down the sentences, I agreed with him on most all his interpretations. I did not agree on the point that Bush really believed Saddam had WMD, at the time I felt he was over selling the idea. I felt even more so when he said the UN Inspectors also believed Saddam had WMD. He even used Hans Blic's name. Later Mr. Blic vehently denied ever saying that, which turned out to be true. Why Bush would use someone else's name knowing it would be lying, is beyond my comprehension.
Mr. Kaplan recommends the next president, be the opposite of Bush. A better way of putting that, Be nothing like Bush. The opposite of Bush would be too much the opposite. My guide to choosing a president, never choose someone that makes promises. To often, most of the promises a candidate makes never get fulfilled. The one mistake that is made or actually, what is not given thought, getting a promise to reality depends on many people notably enough support from Congress and the Senate. If they are not sold on the idea, it becomes a Broken Promise and to soon you could make enemies in both the Congress and Senate, not to mention the voters that you made the promise o.
He also said the next president should be experienced and smart. He doesn't go into any detail on this. Does he have a specific area to be experienced in? How Smart does the president have to be? What kind of Smart should we look for, Book Smart or Hands On Smart perhaps, both?
