God, but I love this place.

I mean it, I really do. Now that we got a good pile-on going, it's starting to feel all cozy and familiar and stuff. You can go home again!

Any anti-semites out there who wanna give a hey holler?

It's the joooos!

It's not clear to me who's doing the piling on, though.

I'm not against Jews today.

But I can't stand divorced people. I think in hell we'll all be married to one another. If it was bad having one spouse from hell, think what it'll be like to have millions of 'em.

I've been trying to give the new digs a chance, but this just sucks (especially with a Mozilla browser). I'm sure Slate and the "new" Fray will attract an army of hipper folks to replace lil' old me, and everybody will be happier for it.

Or maybe not.

In any case, I think I'm about done. While it may be what the youngsters today want, I've had enough. None of the new features makes up for the awful look of the place, the teeny tiny live space in which we are allowed to write (in order to make room for the massive cisco ad over there --->), and the complete inability to read a thread as it ought to be read. Sure, I'll probably stop in now and again (in Sports Nut during hockey season, most likely), but it's just no fun to hang out here in BoTF anymore.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got some kids I've got to chase off my lawn.

Oh, geez

First of all, you might want to try Apple's new browser. I'm corporate bound to IE, but that just makes it easier to write internal web apps, so I'm not going to complain too loud.

I would agree, it's a bit of a step backwards. Mostly because of the truncated tree. I also have no idea if anyone replied to anything I post without having to look at it. The MBTU should show that. But I'm not ready to give up. No, sir. Fight the good fight.

I don't say this very often, but I would miss you're one liners.

"your" one liners, Duc

and coming from you, mr. wordsmith, I'm appalled.

As far as you, Lono, don't go just yet...to borrow from the wedding theme around here, the editors are still on the honeymoon with this thing. Sooner or later they're going to wake up and look over at the hairy mess on the pillow next to them and run downstairs to stick their head in the oven shrieking hysterically. Always works for me. It'll never be the way it used to be, but give them time to do a little tweaking, maybe come to a happy medium.

Why am I reminded of the smell of napalm in themorning?
what is this of which you speak?
by fluffyblackpuppies

i have never seen this mythical cisco ad.

also, i've tried 4 different browsers on two different computers. ie6 on an old computer at work does the best, but ie6 on my slightly newer computer at home is absolutely the worst. the others are in the middle somewhere.

I'm stuck with Mozilla at work and that's where I do most of my posting. Don't know if it's just my company's idiosyncratic system (a Frankenstein of a system if ever there was one) or Mozilla in general.

When I use the "threaded" view, I don't get the open window underneath...all I see is the thread. I can open the + signs to see who's in the thread, but if I want to read any part of it, I have to switch from "threaded" to "flat" view, which means I've got to slog thru the whole damn thread anyway with no idea who is replying to whom. I'm not being a Luddite, there are serious impediments to me being able to enjoy the conversational aspect of the Fray that always brought me back.

Cutting and pasting is a nightmare. And why so fucking small? Not only narrow, but short. I've got an 18" monitor, and I'm reading and writing on index cards.

Obviously I can't quit cold turkey, but I have found myself coming here less over the past two weeks. Not a conscious decision to "stay away from the stupid new Fray," just less interest in dropping by. I'm not the kind of guy who's going to storm out in an indignant huff, tossing bombs and burning bridges. Not my style (and I imagine really embarrassing when I came back). But I do see my interest in this place waning.

They're married to this hairy mess for better or worse. WaPo will not annul, and if there's a divorce, it's the freditors who'll be moving out of the house with naught but the shirts on their backs, this Fray's here to stay.

In order to fix the bits of the old Fray that were broken, they rebuilt the entire system. They spent money and effort to do this. Over the next few months, new people WILL be attracted and some old timers will adapt (not to imply that YOU'RE old, of course). Once they've got a base of regulars back, they'll have no need (and I'm betting they've got little inclination) to change anything.

Plus, the election's coming up. I'll be a happier human being for the next year if I don't spend every day, um, "discussing" politics around here.

As I said to Duc:

Re: Look --------->

It takes up the whole right half of the screen. "Welcome to the Human Network." Sometimes it's a pic of Buddhist monks with a laptop, sometimes a street performer with a guitar, sometimes a little black kid dancing. There's sometimes a matching banner across the top of the page. Urq has been discussing it at length.

Am I imagining this?
